“Hello, I want to create my website with WordPress”.
Maybe you are an individual, an entrepreneur, a freelancer, a graphic designer or an SME.
You don’t know anything and you want to create your own website or create them for your customers. You’ve painstakingly scoured blog posts, tutorials, and YouTube videos looking for information on creating your site in simple ways. And you notice that one name comes up a lot: WordPress. What’s more, your friends have also recommended it. OK! It’s not rocket science! Not so sure!
What are the options?
Get your hands dirty
You can decide to carry out the project yourself. You’ll be proud to have created your website and be in control of your budget. However, if you don’t know anything about it, you’ll embark on a huge project. This is especially true if the code (HTML/CSS/PHP) is still completely unknown to you and you’re allergic to English.
The idea here is to download a free or paid WordPress theme. Then add your own content, integrate your logo, add a dozen or so extensions, and play with the available options. Attention, each WordPress theme has its own customization options. In fact, customization differs according to the authorizations given by the development team that designed it.
If you choose this option, you run the risk of being restricted in the customization of your site or of not being able to satisfy your customer requests or answer their questions. In addition, many WordPress themes and extensions have an English interface.
Some of them have translation files that you can install. However, the documentation generally remains in English. What’s more, a half-translated administration can be very complex for your customers who are not at ease with the language of Shakespeare.
In general, you’ll also be tempted to make adjustments directly on the online site, where everyone can see what you’re doing. Not a brillant idea!
Despite these constraints, with motivation and perseverance, you still have a chance. Note that WordPress also allows you to create your own site without any HTML/CSS/PHP knowledge directly on its platform for a small fee: https://wordpress.com. Lastly, installing WordPress is automatic, and you don’t need web hosting.
If you’re afraid you won’t be able to overcome the difficulties and you’re not comfortable with the options above, look at the second option.
Take a WordPress training course
This is a good investment, as the WordPress training course will help you to understand the essential concepts needed to carry out your projects more easily and more quickly. The aim is to understand and know how to install and manage a WordPress site.
The training program can be more or less complex. It can cover only the use of the WordPress administration tool, or it can become more technical to do a little more customization. Remember that to customize your site (even a little), you need to get your hands on some basic code.
The course also teaches you about good web practices in general and about the WordPress tool itself. The trainer can give you professional tips and tricks and answer any questions you may have. The main difficulty here is absorbing a large amount of information and concepts in a short space of time. After the training, you’ll need a minimum of practice to feel comfortable and acquire the experience you need to carry out your projects independently.
However, if you’re resistant to even the most basic line of code and to English, you might want to consider the latter option.
Calling on a WordPress website agency
This is still the best way to get a high-quality, personalized site that is stable and durable over time.
